Michael Stocum is the President and Founder of Personalized Medicine Partners (PPM) LLC, a firm that provides strategic and operational support to pharmaceutical and diagnostic product companies and contract research and clinical medicine service providers.

Over the course of his 20-year career in the life sciences industry, Michael has contributed to the success of a wide range of pharmaceutical and diagnostic products. He has developed or commercialized several molecular diagnostic products that have enabled personalized medicine, including HIV-1 RNA viral load tests and hypersensitivity reaction to Abacavir testing by HLA-B5701 for HIV-infected patients. He's contributed to the development of medicines in a variety of disease areas including abacavir for HIV, Tykerb and Votrient for cancer, as well as treatments for cardiometabolic diseases, inflammation, and critical care. Sales of many of these products range from tens to hundreds of millions of dollars annually.

Michael's corporate experience comprises roles in pharmaceuticals at GlaxoWellcome and GlaxoSmithKline; in biologics at AkzoNobel's Organon Pharma; and in molecular diagnostics at Organon Teknika. He has also held positions at two biotech startups, Xanthon and Tricon Pharmaceuticals. He began his career as a bench scientist and advanced to positions of increasing responsibility in business, product, and commercial development as well as licensing.

A strong advocate for the advancement of personalized medicine, Michael is the chair of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry's Personalized Medicine division and an active member of the Personalized Medicine Coalition. He also serves on the Industry Advisory Board for the Professional Science Master's program at North Carolina State University (NCSU).

Michael received dual B.S. degrees in biochemistry and microbiology with a minor in genetics as well an M.S. in Biotechnology Management from NCSU. He was also awarded academic research assistantships at NCSU and at the National Institutes of Health and at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park, NC.
